Thread For 2010 BHC WARMUP TOURNEY(submit your catches here)
im not trying to be hateful .. or upset in the least way towards anyone.. but when someone posted they had caught x amount of bulls (600) or duskys(500 i think)... it kind of took the wind out of our teams sails'.. for future reference colby.. i love the idea of posting the pictures within three (or perhaps less) days of when the shark was caught.. it really discouraged us and made us think there was no reason to carry on.. also... maybe sandbars could be added to the point system.. just suggestions i guess.. good job to everyone i know we all fished hard.. Big Hammer challenge.. here we come!!! good luck to all
Update as to the status of the shark identification: Dr. Castro from NOAA/Mote Marine Lab is now examining the pictures.

This is what Dr. Castro wrote me:
Bulls have such short snouts...but it is hard to tell from those
pictures. The question is whether those sharks in the night pictures
had interdorsal ridges or not. If they had interdorsal ridges they
cannot be bull sharks. If they had interdorsal ridges ...they are
sandbars.
Picture 42 appears to be a sandbar.
There are no duskies in those pictures, as far as I can tell.
Cheers

This is what Dr. Hammerschlag wrote me:
It is tough to tell from the pics..but I think most of them are sandbars..
However, if they have dorsal ridge they are not a bull shark.
The one you caught is a bull shark...the others are probably not, they
look like sandbars, but hard to tell from the pics...
Thanks for keeping me posted

Will posted a picture with a very similar looking shark which did have the the interdorsal ridge. As far as I personally can tell from the pictures all the sharks are the same species. I'm sorry if this leaves decision leaves me at odds with anyone but I'm going to have to leave the results as are. I have caught plenty of bull sharks and I can tell you there are no bulls in these pictures, my main concern were if these sharks were duskies or not being that I have not had the privelegdge to catch one. Since Dr. Castro seems quite sure that none of these fish are duskies, I am going to have to go foward and leave the pending results as is with Hammer Fever taking the prize for the BHC Warmup Tourney. Thank you everyone that participated and I hope to see you guys during the Big Hammer Challenge and also during next years kickoff tournament.

And Good Luck To All who enter next month.... JOE:TEAM HARD HOOKERS

Thanks to everyone that participated and put forth such tremendous passionate fishing effort in this tournament. These tournaments revitilize me because I see the proof of how many good fisherman are involved in it.To me this has been an expierience that has taught me that there are other fisherman out there that fish with as much intensity as my team and I do. I saw first hand how hard Team Cape Haze rods and all it's members fished ,,,,I was there in Palm beach to see them weather beaten, bloodied with baits and and after 3 days of non-stop fishing on a beach they got in trucks batterd and tired and fished 3 more days on another beach on the west coast.I can't do what they did anymore NOT at 47 I can't.These young guys give me hope for this sport,,,,,they will carry the torch when I'm gone i'm sure.No one in there team quit ,no one complained ;these guys are troopers, marines, navy seals, rangers all of that and more.Whatever you want to call them it has to be a name that honors them for there tremendous effort. It saddens me to win this tourney on a tecnicality-----sandbar sharks were mistakenly not included----------.They caught more sharks then any other team and if sandbars were included they would have the VICTORY.My portion of the earnings will be completely turned over to Team Cape Haze and it's members.Thank you all ,you have my respect and admiration.
